First settled in 1858 by Wagonmaster John McBroom, the area was later incorporated in 1890.
In 1887 Lt. General P.H. Sherman was authorized by Congress to establish a military post near Denver (many even called it "Camp close to Denver"). He subsequently selected 640 acres of land and the Post was named Fort Logan for General John A. Logan. Fort Logan is now Fort Logan Mental Health Facility for the State of Colorado.
